Eurycantha sp

Eurycanthas are large, temperamental insects.Eurycantha spp is closely related to the popular Eurycantha Calcarata.
Not for starters ! The females can grow up to 14 cm, males are smaller, but just as impressive, as they have large pins
on their hind leggs and will use them if they feel like it -_-#
They come from Indonesia. They like all kinds of vegetation, some even like fruits. I feed them ivy.
The youngsters look like a flat piece of bark. It is wise to raise them seperately from the adults. Also, don't put 2
adult males in one cage, they will fight. Females are usually easier to handle, but it appeared to me they are more nervous
than males.

Eurycanthas like a big cage where they can run around and search for food. They are nocturnal, so during the day they hide
under a piece of bark and sleep. Place some branches and pieces of bark in the terrarium.
They drink from a shallow scale of fresh water.

At this moment, I moved my Eurycantha's to this cage, after the last Extato female died. This is now the home of my two females
and one of the males. The other male is still in the old aquarium, together with the Aretaons and Sungaya's. Since its not
an aquarium but an open cage, I need to spray some water everyday in order to keep the humidity high.
My uncle made this cage, its big !!

Females need a layer of sand or another soft substance where they can lay their eggs in. They lay about 2-3 eggs every night.
You can leave them in the sand, or you can gently dig them out and place them on a moist piece of tissue or in your incubator.
If there is too much humidity, they will rott, so beware.
As for me, I place them in a plastic box with some moist tissue.
